Let peace be the hallmark of the referendum

The road to a new constitution has been long, winding and torturous. In the two-decade-long search, tears have been shed, blood lost and limbs broken.

The Wednesday referendum on the Proposed Constitution is therefore a milestone in the making of our nation.

This is the second time that voters will be trooping to the ballot box in six years to try and realise a new constitution after the 2005 attempt failed.

The renewed impetus for a new constitution got a shot in the arm from the National Accord that was crafted by the Kenya Dialogue team chaired by former United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan, who mediated the 2007-2008 political crisis.
